hit my son’s school.  Over 200 kids are out sick.   Sorry, I can’t control the gathering of 1,000 students.  I certainly cannot oversee how each student sneezes, coughs, picks their nose, washes their hands or if they stay home when they are sick.  So…thanks, my son is now sick and my daughter is now banned from her school.   Because she’s a Junior in high school, a day off isn’t the free pass it used to be.  Obviously she’s not happy about the ban, especially since she’s not sick.

The thought just occurred me that it might be possible you could have both types at the same time which would really suck. Anyone know if it’s possible?

Just as there are cases where a person has two different types of cancer, there are cases where a person has contracted two different viral illnesses at the same time. There are many different strains of influenza, and if a person contracts two forms at the same time, their DNA may blend to form an entirely new strain. However, the odds of getting both the seasonal and H1N1 varieties at the same time are very slim and I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Due to the rising interests and questions being posted to around the web I thought it might be helpful for some of you out there to gather some information on the facts about the swine flu outbreak.

The swine flu influenza transmission use to jump from pig to pig and only in rare cases transmit to humans. The origins of it might be that humans first transmitted the influenza virus to pigs before they developed their own. The influenza season brings a mix of influenza viruses resulting in the increased risk of transmission and infection from pig to humans, causing cross-species transmission. Known swine flu viruses are the H1N1 subtype as well as less popular subtypes like H1N2, H3N1 or H3N2.   Therefore a pig can be infected by more than one virus type at the same time.

it was mentioned that many second grade teachers are noticing that their students aren’t able to identify their “Dream”… or their “Big Dream”.  I’ve noticed the same thing.

All in all, how to identify our dream for the future is something that is learned - it’s not an innate ability, and it’s something children can only wrap their brains around when they’re developmentally ready.  Second graders are still very much in the “here and now”.   In other cases, I’ve worked with fifth graders who greatly limited their “Big Dreams” because of their families’ socio-economic status. One boy wouldn’t even let himself consider the possibility of going to college some day because his parents never went to college.  I still encouraged him – saying that for his Dream Star, I wanted him to dream big…  ifanythingwas possible, what would his “Big Dream” be?  It was amazing to see his face light up.
